2015 has just begun but it started with a bang for Sicily. After the announcement of the enrollment of Pantelleria’s Zibibbo as part of the UNESCO World Heritage, and the choice of Marsala as Pantone Color of the Year 2015, Sicily has been chosen to manage the Bio-Mediterranean cluster at EXPO 2015, that will open in Milan on May 1.
As you may have heard this year’s edition of the universal exposition will be divided in clusters: the stands dedicated to every country will be organized by theme. The Bio-Mediterranean cluster will collect all the elements of the Mediterranean diet, that recently became part of UNESCO World Heritage as well. Surely nothing like Sicilian culinary tradition has contributed to the birth of something more than just a way of cooking and eating: Mediterranean diet brings along thousands of years of culture and a unique spirit, that’s why it has become a way of living for Italians.
To date this is the only Cluster led by a public institution: the dining area, the exhibitions and the program of events within the Cluster Bio-Mediterranean will be managed by the Region of Sicily which will also have the task of coordinating the contributions of Participating Countries in the common area.
“Sicily shows visitors the biodiversity of the Mediterranean thanks to its products based on core activities like fishing and agriculture. We are proud to contribute with our ideas to an event that will throw a bridge between cultures.”said Ezechia Paolo Reale.
Sicily will share with visitors of Expo 2015 and with the Participating Countries knowledge on foods typical of the Mediterranean “from olive oil to tomatoes, not to mention the couscous, Sicily boasts the excellence of the food and products that made the DNA of the Mediterranean diet.” said Stefano Gatti.
