Neapolis archaeological park: a natural area full of archaeological remains, it is one of the most important archaeological sites in Italy. Walking through its paths, every visitor – whether if is there for the first time or not – can’t be nothing but struck by the intense beauty surrounding. You could admire the most  famous sight: the huge cave called the Ear of Dionysius (Orecchio di Dionisio) and you will have fun listening to the echo of your voice. You will be fascinated by the Latomia del Paradiso (Paradise Quarry),  a peaceful and green spot, filled with vegatation and lemon trees. Don’t forget to visit Grotta dei Cordari and the ancient necropolis.

The Greek Theatre: continuing along the archaeological park, you will get to the ancient Greek Theatre, the real treasure of this city. Cut directly into the rock, it was modified several times over the centuries and is still used today. We recommend you to visit the Theatre in May or June to attend one of the stunning Greek plays organized by the INDA (National Institute of Ancient Drama) enjoying the show under the colors of a beautiful sunset.

Cathedral of SyracuseOrtigia and the Dome: the island of Ortigia is the historical heart of Syracuse, full of Baroque palaces and churches. Walking along the historical centre you will admire a lot of enchanting squares such as Piazza Archimede at the centre of Ortigia and Piazza Duomo, an elliptical open space surrounded by impressive buildings,  and also a good place to enjoy a good coffee or a great granita. Other beautiful buildings to admire in this unforgettable place are the thirteenth-century Castello Maniace and the Fonte Arethusa (on the western shore) a fresh-water spring whose history is related to the mythology of the nymph Arethusa. But of course you can’t leave Syracuse without visiting its majestic Dome. Once the Greek Temple of Athena, the Dome still preserves the massive Doric columns of the temple but it’s the baroque and rococò style to make it an architectural masterpiece included in a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated in 2005.

We gave you a shortlist of the best places to visit in Syracuse, now it’s up to you to choose the best villa and plan the perfect holiday vacation!
