Many of our guests choose to spend their holidays in Sicily in September rather than in July or August. Late summer and early autumn are indeed some of the best ties of the year to visit the island.

The weather is still warm and sunny, but not as hot as August: temperatures average 25-26°C. The beaches are not that crowded, and walking around the towns is definitely more pleasant.

Visiting Sicily in September 2016 you have the chance of doing some mix and match. Spend a few hours at the beach, and take some time to discover the inland too. You can join some of the many fests dedicated to culinary themes or specialities, the sagre how they call it around here. The list is neverending: the cous cous fest in San Vito Lo Capo, on the westernmost point of the island, the pistachio fest in Bronte, in the Mt. Etna area, arancini in Aci Castello, and ice-cream in Palermo.

Late September and October is also the grape harvest time. There is a wide number of wineries in Sicily, Sicilian-breed reds, such as Nero d’Avola, and withes such as Catarratto or Grillo gained international importance, but probably the most interesting wine region right now is Menfi’s area. During summer the town of Menfi hosts the Inycon, a conventions that gathers wine producers from all over the Belice valley. In the area are located a few among the most important Sicilian wineries, where wine tours are available daily.
