Summer’s gone and with it the crowds of tourists that from June on arrive in Sicily to enjoy its hot sun and neverending beaches. It’s over then, see you next year… Not at all!
Those who know this land, are aware that sumer isn’t necessarily the best time to visit it. Autumn assures a pleasant weather as well, sometimes also suitable for a swim, but perfect to go on a road trip across the island’s charming countryside. Even if most of the tourism here is focused on the maritime attractions, many of our guests discover there’s much more than sun and sand in Sicily.
The beautiful inland, the small characteristic towns, the country fests, and the unique atmosphere make of Sicily the Tuscany of the South. And late September and October are the best time to discover this side of the island.
Our selection of villas in Sicily includes a lot of estates in the country: they would be a great starting point for a tour. Our suggestion is to go on a road trip and visit all those destinations you wouldn’t during a traditional vacation in Sicily. Visit the wonderful Southeast and its barowue jewels, Noto, Modica, Scicli and Ragusa Ibla, or go on a hike on the mountains of the Sicilian Apennines, exploring the Madonie and Nebrodi nature reserves.
Autumn will give to wine lovers the perfect opportunity for a tour of thh wineries. ISicily is home to some of the most renowned wine producers of Italy, and features more than 20 DOC areas. You can taste the Cerasuolo in Vittoria, the Moscato in noto, the Nero d’Avolta in the Southeast or Marsala wine visiting the town it’s been named after.
If you can’t stand the idea of staying away from the beach, don’t worry: between the end of October and early November Sicily celebrates its Indian summer, that around here goes by the name of St. Martin’s summer.
